I’m now reading Year of the Griffin by Diana Wynne Jones. This is the sequel to Dark Lord of Derkholm that I finished the other day. This is a much better book. The plot gets going right away, and is altogether an easier read. It may be because I know a couple of the characters, but I think it is simply written better. More when I’ve finished it.
Dark Lord of Derkholm
I recently finished reading Dark Lord of Derkholm by Diana Wynne Jones. I’ve previously read her children’s books and saw this one at the library and decided to give it ago.
It took a little while to get going, probably until a third of the way through the book. Then the plot started to grip me. After that I enjoyed the book. If you can persevere through that first third in which nothing much seems to have any point, then the rest of the book is enjoyable.
Recommended.
S Club United
Jamie and Bekki (and Kim and Jackie) went to see S Club United (S Club and S Club Juniors) last night at the M.E.N. Arena. It was Jamie’s (and I think Bekki’s) first concert. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Jamie was in a daze when she got back late last night. I’m hoping she will write about the gig on her blog. In the meantime I’ve put some photo’s from the gig up in the gallery. Thanks to Kim for the photos.

Family Histree
Jan’s new website went live today: Family Histree. It is going to be a site to track and document her family history research and genealogical interests. Currently there is only a just-started journal, but eventually there will be a lot of information there. I am evaluating content management systems to use at the moment. Drupal and eZ Publish are looking favourites. I have given up on PHP Website as not really suitable for the type of website she will need.
Tiny R/C Tanks That Fight
Wow! Here’s an interesting development moving on from those tiny R/C cars! Konami have produced tiny remote controlled tanks that can shoot each other! — Combat DigiQs.
There is a great, in-depth review by Dan Rutter over at Dan’s Data.
“These are tiny little remote controlled tanks that fight. Up to four can play. They’re a bunch of fun.”
“The Combat DigiQs are so small that you can stage a satisfying battle on a coffee table. You don’t have to use the carpeted floor. And they are tracked vehicles, so they can clamber over small obstacles quite successfully.”
“They charge in about 10 minutes, and run for up to 15 minutes, which is good.”
Hmmm. I would love to get a couple of these!

The Joy of Work: The Evidence
I managed to get hold of a copy of the ‘Joy of Work’ segment filmed at my office for the Richard and Judy show and broadcast on Channel 4 last Monday. It was definitely portrayed in a light-hearted manner! You can see it in Real Player format (3.13MB). Thankfully, I’m not in it! 😉
