I’ve added a hacked up version of Dodo’s archive hack. Wlhich you can find here. I need to do some more fiddling to get it to look like the rest of the site.
I may also make it so that it can be used as the main archive listing (i.e. usable as an include file in the sidebar too). My PHP is a little rusty so it may take a while.
Swimming
I left work early and got home to pick up the car. Jan wasn’t too bad but was not up to taking Jamie swimming.
So I picked her up from school and took her for her swimming lesson. Unfortunately, Jamie is a little bit lazy when it comes to expending energy! The teacher had the whole class swimming ‘lengths’ of the cordoned off section of the pool. Whenever she got the chance Jamie would pull herself along with her hands on the side rather than swimming al the way.
Anyway it went off without a hitch, apart from losing the fifty pence piece from the locker when it dropped into a drainage grill!.
Jan’s Back
Jan hurt her back yesterday, and seemed to be in quite a bit of pain. But she said she could cope.
I’ve just had a phone call from her asking me to collect Jamie from school and take her (Jamie) swimming. I guess it’s got a lot worse.
I hope it doesn’t get as bad as the last time; when she was bed-ridden for nearly a whole week, and in a lot of pain for much longer. It’s hard to tell however as she doesn’t tell me much.
Linux From Scratch – Progress
Great. I left glibc running overnight and it’s completed ok now.
Linux From Scratch – A Problem Solved
Way hey! I rebuilt gawk (having had to change the ownership back from root to lfs) and this time I managed to do the build correctly. I guess I must have missed off the LDFLAGS=-static last time round.
Linux From Scratch – A Problem
My first real problem with Linux From Scratch. I’d got to the building glibc part when it failed half way through. It appears that gawk hasn’t built properly. So when in the chrooted LFS partition the glibc build process is unable to run gawk. Even when I try to run gawk from the command line it fails. It sure looks like I didn’t build it properly.
Ah ha! I’ve just checked, and file $LFS/usr/bin/gawk gives me ‘dynamically linked’. Oops I did build it wrongly.
OK gonna step back and try to fix it.
I Can See Clearly Now – Part 2
The last of the scaffolding has gone now, though the centre section of the ground floor of the building has had boards raised around it.
It does make a pleasant change to see the old victorian facade again. Still some way to go on the new entrance but progress is good.
Linux From Scratch — Progress
Woo hoo! I’ve finished chapter 5. I’m on to chapter 6 next (Duh!) “Installing basic system software”. No problems so far. Things are still a little slower than expectations form the book. But it is an old machine!
