Couldn’t Be Bothered

I was contemplating doing some work tonight. I got a pile of stuff (including two releases) to do for tomorrow lunchtime and I’m not sure I can get it all done in time.
So I thought I could start one of the releases from home, but in the end I couldn’t be bothered.
Hohum.

What A Week!

What a week I’ve had at work! It’s been constant interruptions and jumping from thing to another. Several crises came and went this week. I attended a meeting and learned some very disappointing information!
On the bright side project ‘Dandy’ is nearing completion, although I did learn of yet another change that needs making because the other half of the system has been implemented differently from the specification!

I’m back on 24×7 support this weekend so I shan’t be wandering too far from my PC 🙂

New Entrance

At last they have opened the new entrance to my office building. It’s a very swish affair, with a revolving door, a large reception, marble on the floor and walls, a waiting area with leather seats and a large flat screen TV showing CNN, coffee machines, etc.
It’s very echo-ey, and I’m sure it will be very cold when winter sets in. I pity the security guys.

The old doorways have been closed off, only for use in case of fire. They will open automatically if the fire alarm goes off. Which should be at least once every two weeks 🙁

I’ll try to get some pictures tomorrow.

Release Fever

I’ve had to do 7 releases this week! And there may be another one tomorrow. It’s more than a little bit crazy! I seem to have spent most of this week managing code rather than producing or correcting it.
Ho hum…

Aaargh!

I’m really back into the swing of things now! Lurching from one crisis to another. It started with a meeting this morning about a new project. Great ideas, great meeting, talked through the requirements, got some ideas. Oh dear, we need to have estimates ASAP! No way! At least not accurate ones. This is quite a complicated project, it needs careful thought. But I get “Just do your best, highest priority.”

OK lunch, then into thinking about the architecture and design for this project. But, wait! “Mike, you have to get back onto project ‘dandy’! Highest priority.” OK clear it with the other project manager, and I’m back on to that. Very slow progress for a couple of hours (during which I had an accident… more later), interspersed with numerous other queries, emails, and phone calls; and then, at about 5:20 …

“Mike, we’ve got a big problem with project ‘R’. It needs looking into NOW, highest priority.” Says I, “But I’m hurt, I want to go home.” Says they, “Can you look at it when you get home?”

So hereI am back at home, slightly recovered and back at the PC.

Blah Blah

Blah day today. Settled back in to the routine back at the office. You know, work for ten minutes, answer an email, work for ten minutes, answer somebody’s question. Oh time for a meeting. Back to work for ten minutes, answer the phone…
And it was cold and windy whenever I went out for a smoke! 🙁

Back In The Office

Well, I’m back in the office, and it’s not been as bad as I thought 🙂
I’ve not been disturbed too much (only about five or six time so far), and have managed to get some work done. I did find out they’ve changed the train times one me though! My usual train now leaves five minutes earlier than before; luckily I was there in time.

There have been a few changes, but as I was keeping up, with emails, IM and the odd phone call, there was only one surprise. Half a dozen desks in the development department were empty! It turns out that one of the teams has been moved off into another room, to allow them to work undisturbed.
