I’ve had broadband trouble again today. It was fine last night. But this morning I couldn’t check my mail. It was the same with Pinga in the kitchen. But whenever Jan used the internet today she had no problem. I did reboot the firewall on the way out to work this morning. Maybe that fixed it. Although, looking at the logs on the firewall, it had trouble as it was booting. Maybe it got better later. The funny thing is that the cable modem box shows two steady green lights, which means everything is ok. Strange. I’m beginning to think it may be hardware problems on the firewall itself. Igloo is a very old machine. Or rather some very old bits from some very old machines. Apart from the internal network card which is brand new.

This article by Eric Flint First Librarian at the Baen Free Library is another well reasoned argument from an author showing that free downloads do not harm sales. The site is an excellent site too.
Two great articles on MP3 downloading
I just read two great articles from household name artists on the issues involved in MP 3 downloading and the reaction of the music industry.
The first from Courtney Love in which she explains how the record industry and particularly the labels really do not work for the artists.
The second article from Janis Ian with a slightly different slant on the issues but with the same conclusions.
Both articles are quite long but well worth reading.
Internet Explorer Wierdness
I’ve just discovered that Internet explorer is rendering my header, with my little StorTrooper underneath the header block. That’s underneath in the z-order!
All you can see are his little feet peeping out! 🙁 Of course, in Mozilla it’s fine.
My CSS is not that hot but I’ll have to look into it.

I found out today, that Jackie, my daughter-in-law, read through pretty much the whole of my journal on Friday. She especially wanted me to mention her more!
So this ones for you Jackie! 😀
A great afternoon
We then spent the rest of the afternoon, and into the early evening, having fun in the garden. The kids ran around and played, the adults sat around drinking beer, ouzo, raki and (in my case) coffee and chatted. Graham did another fake tattoo on Steve’s arm. Paula gave Graham a fake tattoo to cover his real one, and even I had one!
Also Graham had his hair cut, and Steve had his highlighted and cut. This latter was a joint effort between, Jackie, Paula and Thom! 
At one point the kids disappeared next door to play with the kids there. Later the barbecue came out again, and we all had burgers and sausages.
Jamie really enjoyed her special day, as did we all. All in all, a wonderful afternoon
Brunch/Lunch/Barbecue
The brunch which turned into lunch, was great! Jan did us proud with Sausages, bacon, eggs, beans, mushrooms, etc., etc. The kids had stuff from the barbecue too. I think I ended up having third helpings! Yum yum. 🙂
