Google Catalogues

I’ve just found out about Google Catalogs.
Really interesting. They’ve scanned, OCR-ed and catalogued (pun intended) thousands of mail order catalogues. All searchable.

Try a search. It highlights your search term on the catalogue pages. Click on the image and you zoom into the scanned page with the item you searched for. At the bottom are contact details; web site, phone number, etc.

What an amazing idea!

Full Archives Available

You can now find a link to the full archives in the right hand side bar. Thanks to Dodo’s Archives Hack. I tweaked it a little (see the forum for my tweaked version) and it now works ok for me.
I still need to make it look a little nicer, but it is at least functional.

Archive Listing

I’ve added a hacked up version of Dodo’s archive hack. Wlhich you can find here. I need to do some more fiddling to get it to look like the rest of the site.
I may also make it so that it can be used as the main archive listing (i.e. usable as an include file in the sidebar too). My PHP is a little rusty so it may take a while.

I love my broadband!

I’ve just finished down loading as much useful Java stuff as I can for a colleague, Duncan, who’s on a cut-you-off-after-two-hours dial-up connection. He actually wanted the JDK 1.4 for linux and a couple of other bits, but it pains me to see so much blank CD space go to waste. So I’ve down loaded as much as I can find and managed to fill 400+MB. At least its more than half full 🙂

I’ve included lots of goodies like Forte and NetBeans, lots of Jakarta stuff, JUnit et al., JBoss, and a few other choice pieces.

Mike.
