question – would i be able to import automatically my b2 content? i don’t know if i ever want to do that manually again. also, would it be like an upgrade to b2 or a brand new installation?

Yes, the first release(s) of WordPress will be based on b2 so you would be able to retain your b2 data.
I think it will be a new installation, but able to point to (and upgrade) your b2 database.
